Be Proactive
There once was a little boy called Alfie who loved to play handball. He was literally the best in the school. But ,while he was running around, he almost tripped over a bin! He looked closely at it, it was an overflowing rubbish bin. It was disgusting! There were mashed bananas, chip packets, crumbled cookies, paper bags from canteen orders and much more. So Alfie decided to be responsible and cleaned up the mess. The duty teacher saw Alfie doing this and gave him 100 points for his class, but that was not what he was most pleased about. Alfie was happy that he did the right thing and was proactive.
Put First Things First
Once there was a girl called Maya who loved to watch the television show 'Adventure Time'. One day she woke up on a school morning and went downstairs to see what her big brother Leo was doing, and he was watching television. Then her dad called "Leo, time for school!" Maya looked to see what was on the television. In 26 seconds 'Adventure Time' was starting. Maya sat down and began to watch her favourite show. Unfortunately, this was a very long television show. Two and a half hours later when the show ended, Maya looked at the clock. It was 9:00! Maya was late for school and had to get a late note, as she didn't put first things first or think about what was more important - watching television or getting to school on time.
Begin With The End In Mind
There was once a sporty 10-year-old athlete called Bo. Bo was competing in a national running race, and he was only child competing! The rest were adults. Bo got dressed quickly and ran out the door. When Bo arrived for the race, only a few other people were there, so he tried to impress them by showing off and boasting. Then when Bo had finished talking to them, he paraded around the sports ground a bit doing cartwheels. Then suddenly the official called "Race starts in 5 seconds!" Bo rushed to the starting line and started to run with all the other people. Bo was at the front but then he tripped on his shoelaces. Bo came last in the race, because he didn't begin with the end in mind, got distracted, and forgot to tie up his shoelaces!
Think Win Win
There once was a boy called Boaz and a girl called Romy and they were best friends. They liked playing soccer together, along with their other friends Leo, Zak, Jack, Josh, Sienna and Jake. One day a new person called Ryder came to the school, and Boaz and Romy tried to welcome Ryder to the school by asking him to play soccer with them. Ryder did not want to play sport at all unless it was tennis. No one at school was playing tennis that day, so Romy made a roster, which included both tennis and soccer, so Ryder would join in. What Romy did is called thinking win- win.
Seek First to Understand Then Be Understood
Once there were twin sisters called Millie and Billie, and they were best friends. They both loved acting, so when an audition was advertised for a part for an 11 year-old girl in a movie, they took their chances and auditioned that afternoon. Millie got the part, but Billie didn't. Billie said "It's fine, take the part." Millie said "Are you upset about this?" And Billie said "Yes I am, but you should do it." Millie suddenly felt sorry for Billie - Millie thought about what Billie was feeling and put herself in Billie's shoes. Millie said "I won't do it, I will wait for a part in a movie that we can both be in." Billie's eyes lit up and she said "Thank you so much!" When Millie sought to understand how her sister Billie was feeling, she figured out that they probably shouldn't of both auditioned in the first place, because if only one of them was successful that would make the other twin sister unhappy.
Sharpen The Saw
Once there lived a teenager called James who was 17 years old, and he was studying at his desk for a test coming up in a couple of terms. It was very hard! Then, out of nowhere his little 4-year-old sister Linzy appeared, and she said "Jamie, can woo come thoo parkth wisth me for halth a hour?" (She had a very bad lisp. What she meant was "Can you come to the park with me?") James said "No I've got to study". Then Linzy replied "Please? It will do you good." Then James finally sighed, "Fine". They went to the park, and it did make James feel good to spend time with his little sister in the fresh air. Since Linzy convinced James to sharpen the saw, he relaxed about the test and took a break from studying, and ended up getting an A+ in the test!
Synergise
Once there were four children called Alice, Leah, Mia and Alex and they were put in a group in class to make a tent. Alice said "How about we do it like this?", drawing her design on a piece of paper. Alex replied "Great idea!" Then Mia said "Or maybe we could do it this way?"and she drew a different design. "Let's combine those ideas together!" exclaimed Leah cheerfully and they did. The way Alice, Leah, Mia and Alex worked together is called synergising.
